All too often, something or someone offends us. Sometimes we don’t fully understand the person’s intent. But we may jump to conclusions or misinterpret having our feelings on our sleeve, or when we are feeling overwhelmed. And of course, there are times when we know for sure that person is trying to insult us, and we clearly get the message. We are offended by comments or actions, or delivery. You name it, we find ways to hurt each other. Especially if we have had dealings with an individual previously. We learn to watch out for the one! Did you know that the Holy Spirit will not move where feelings of being offended are? That’s right. Whether you think you are the best Christian and falling into heaven, holding on to hard feelings as the result of someone’s actions or comments toward you, leave you in the wrong too. Why? you might ask. Well, that person will have to answer to God for their actions. But you have to forgive them regardless of what they have said or done to you. That can be the most difficult thing to do. I know, believe me. Times when comments dig into the core of your heart and leave you vulnerable and sad. It is not always strangers who may not know you well that offend you, it could be a friend, or family member, making it much worse and the hurt and disappointment more difficult. What does the Bible say about being offended? Matthew 18 talks about the church. It gives the steps to use in times of conflict. Verse 15 says, “If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone.” In other words, don’t tell everyone around you, go straight to the source and clear the air. The Bible also says in Proverbs and Leviticus that it is a sin to let someone offend you that results in you stopping your work in the kingdom and what God has called you to do. If you are an usher and someone offends you…. keep working for the Lord. God will take care of that individual. He has defined all through the Bible that we may not always get along in the church. And that is sad. More conflicts and misunderstandings or jealously can be found in the church. It should not surprise us. The devil will do anything he can to divide God’s people. Pray for the ones that speak against you and let God discipline them. You keep on doing what God wants you to do! Until He Comes!
